Why are Daily Baths and Showers Important?

Having a daily warm bathe can help lower blood sugar levels. Dr. Philip L. Hooper from the McKee Medical Centre in Loveland, Colorado  led a study where people with diabetes immersed themselves in a hot water bath for about 20-30 minutes everyday for three weeks. The study showed that these peoples blood sugar levels lowered by 13%.

By sitting yourself daily in a bath filled with warm water increases the blood circulation in your body. It helps oxygen to reach the limbs and helps in nourishment of damaged cells at the extremities. This also helps to lower your blood pressure which automatically helps improve your heart function.

Having a shower or bath everyday also helps to boost your immune system.Not just warm water bath but a cold shower can also benefit you a lot. A study showed that taking a cold shower regularly can stimulate the vascular and lymph system to produce more number of immune cells that fight infections. This can decrease your chances of falling sick over the year.

Daily simple warm showers and baths can help to reduce tension and improve overstretched muscles. It helps sore muscles by relaxing them and improving the flexibility or elasticity of muscles, especially when you bathe after exercising.

Bathing induces sleep. Taking a bath before going to sleep has been proven to induce sleep. In some people it has shown to improve the quality of sleep while in others it has also cured insomnia.

Showering daily helps remove toxins from on your skin. Sweating is a means by which the body eliminate toxins, with daily bath your perspiration odour will be reduced greatly. Warm water bath not only drains out all the toxins but also kills bacteria and viruses, which will also decrease the number infections you may suffer throughout the year.

A study by Shevchuk NA showed that exposure to cold water a couple of days a week helps people who suffer from depression. The cold water results in activation of the nervous system, it increases the level of the chemicals beta-endorphin and noradrenaline in the blood which reduces depression. A cold shower also sends electrical impulses from the brain which causes an anti-depressive effect. This also works with stress. By taking daily baths it can help to reduce all your worries and tension. A study conducted in Japan showed that the levels of  cortisol, which is linked with the feeling of stress,  reduced significantly in people who took a bath after 60 minutes.
