When choosing a toilet for your house or office, choosing a manufacturer is a good starting point. As each manufacturer offers a certain range of products, you can decide on one that produces the stuff that you like best, and then concentrate on choosing something from their products. If you were to just type “toilet” into the search engine, you’d end up with an endless list, too many styles, sizes, design, and technologies all at once. That’s why we’re here – to present you everything in a neat and organized manner, and to point out all the basic advantages and disadvantages of Toto toilets.
Toto is one of the most popular toilet manufacturers. The company is based in Japan, and although Japanese toilets look nothing like what you’d want to have in your bathroom, these guys have a quite extensive selection of excellent quality Western-style models. Their products are mostly made in Japan for export, and all the materials and pieces used are high-quality and up to the highest international standards. Toto has lost of different lines of toilets, which include different bowl shapes, sizes, and flushing technologies. In this article, we will present you a Top 5 of our favorite Toto toilets. Check them out and see if any of them catches your eye:
TOTO CST744SL#01 Drake 2-Piece Ada Toilet
The TOTO Drake series is one of the most popular lines they’ve ever released. Drake toilets usually have an elongated bowl (which is the case of this model as well) and are two-piece units (meaning that the water tank and bowl are two separate pieces). They are also made from high-quality vitreous china, and available in several different colors, including white, black, and neutral tones. This toilet has a rather high seat profile (around 19” from the floor) so you will need to measure and plan the space in your bathroom, and also make sure that you’re comfortable with a higher seat.
The TOTO CST744SL#01 Drake 2-Piece Ada Toilet is great if you want to reduce the water consumption and stay compliant with the American laws. The toilet has a G-max flushing system that consumes only 1.6 gallons per flush. Another advantage of this model is the wide 3” flush valve. Most toilets, including the America Standard ones, have a standard 2” flush valve. However, this bigger one is naturally more convenient for washing off a big amount of waste in an efficient manner.
Besides all that, the price isn’t too bad, and the toilet comes with a warranty. What else could you wish for? Check out the latest price and find out more about this toilet here:
TOTO MS604114CEFG#01 Ultramax II Het Double Cyclone Elongated One Piece Toilet
The TOTO Ultramax series is their trademark line of high-end toilets. They cost almost twice as much as Drake models but have several features that will make a world of a difference to some people. First and foremost, the surface of these toilets is glazed with the so-called Sanagloss, which is an antibacterial barrier that helps keep the surface of the bowl clean. This will be of great help, especially if you’re worried about hygiene, or you tend to overlook that weekly toilet cleaning. In all seriousness, don’t skip cleaning, no matter how antibacterial the surface is – but Sanagloss will probably make you feel more comfortable nonetheless.
Another unique thing about this model is the Double Cyclone flushing technology. The toilet has two nozzles on each size of the bowl, which create a centrifugal effect that keeps both the rim and the bowl squeaky clean. The model relies on the centrifugal force rather than on the amount of water used, as it consumes even less than the previous one – 1.28 gallons per flush.
The Ultramax toilets are one-piece models, so they’re also easier to clean and install than two-piece one. On top of all that, this model comes with its own lid and seat, equipped with the SoftClose Technology. Forget about the mini heart attack you get when someone slams the toilet lid in the middle of the night, as this model will minimize the impact and sound.

TOTO CST412MF.01 Aquia Dual Flush Elongated Two-Piece Toilet
If you’re not ready to pay 500 bucks for your toilet, or you don’t like the idea of a high-profile seat, the Aquia series from TOTO might be a great option for you. For once, these toilets are only 16” high (bowl to the floor), and 17” if we consider the seat. Two, the price is pretty good, so it won’t break the bank while offering you excellent quality. Three, it comes in lots of colors so you can suit the toilet to the design of your bathroom no problem.
The TOTO Aquia series does not only save you some money on the price of the item. Grace to the Dual-Max flushing technology, it will also help you save water in the long run. This Dual Flush technology means that you can basically choose between two types of flushing – 0.9 gallons per flush one, and 1.6 gallons per flush one. As you might have guessed, you can save water on liquid waste that doesn’t need a full-fledged flushing every time, which is really neat, no matter how you look at it.
The TOTO CST412MF.01 Aquia has an elongated bowl, much like all TOTO toilets, and is a two-piece model. Check out the latest price for it here:
Hold on tight to your seats, ladies and gentlemen – the Toto MS970CEMFG#01 is one of the most expensive TOTO toilets. However, don’t let the price scare you. This toilet is actually a concealed mini-computer, which will cater to each and every one of your needs and transform every call of nature into a relaxing experience.
Japan is famous for having this kind of smart toilets – they can heat the seat up, use a bidet to wash both your front and rear, have a water temperature control feature, etc… they haven’t made it big in the US just yet, and we’re still wondering why. The Toto MS970CEMFG#01 is pretty much one of these smart models. It comes with a remote control, which has enough memory for two users. On it, you can customize the water temperature and pressure for the bidet, as well as close or open the lid without touching it. The lid does automatically close after you’ve left the seat, so that’s also pretty convenient. On top of all that, the Toto MS970CEMFG#01 comes with an automatic air deodorizer, which will do the air freshening for you.
For flushing technology, the Toto MS970CEMFG#01 comes with the same Dual Max as the Aquia series. You can choose between a 0.9 and a 1.28 GPF consumption, again, depending on the type of waste.
The only drawback of this model is the price – we get it, not everyone has pockets deep enough to spend so much on a toilet. However, it will definitely make a lifetime investment. Check out the latest price for this model here:
TOTO MS853113E#01 Eco Ultramax Round Front One Piece Toilet
To be perfectly honest with you, we’re not the biggest fans of elongated toilets. They tend to be uncomfortable for some people, especially for those who want to take their time in the toilet. If that sounds like you, the TOTO MS853113E#01 might be the perfect choice for you. This model is a round front, one-piece toilet, and also a pretty low-profile one. The distance from the floor to the seat is only 15”, which is probably similar to what you’re most used to.
The TOT Eco Ultramax series is very similar to the regular Ultramax, with the only exception of the flushing technology. This series uses an E-max flushing system, which consumes only 1.28 gallons per flush. The trap way is also bigger than the standard 2”, measuring 2 1/8”. The flush valve measures 3” as well, making for an efficient and fast flush.
The TOTO MS853113E#01 is available in several different shades of white and ivory. Again, this is probably the best bet for those who aren’t sure whether they would like an elongated bowl, and are rather conservative in their preferences. Find the latest price for this model here:
These were our Top 5 recommendations regarding TOTO toilets that you can get for your home or office. If you clicked on this article, we assume that you’ve never shopped for a toilet before. We know how you’re feeling, and just in case you need a little bit more help, we’ve prepared a flash guide on how to choose the best toilet for yourself.
But before anything else, why choose TOTO? If you’ve been browsing Amazon or looking through your local store, you’ve probably stumbled upon a variety of brands, including Kohler, American Standard, and more. However, if you’re looking for any kind of “smart,” computerized toilet, TOTO is your best bet. Again, if you prefer to have an antibacterial surface toilet, the TOTO Ultramax series with their Sanagloss glaze beats everything else. If you want to have a wide variety of styles and flushing technologies to choose from, again, TOTO is the way to go. Let’s dive into all the main aspects of their toilets once more:
Different flushing technologies
Depending on what you prefer, TOTO flushing technologies range from the typical EPA compliant 1.6 gallons per flush to centrifugal flushing and dual max. You can also have an Eco version, which consumes 1.28 GPF at all times, or a Dual Max Toilet that switches between 0.9 and 1.28 GPF depending on the type of waste you’re getting rid of. There’s also the Double Cyclone, which implies two nozzles placed on both sides of the bowl that create that centrifugal effect using less water.
Bigger flush valves and trap ways
All the flush valves and trap ways that come with TOTO toilets are bigger than standard so that you can wash away all the waste in a more efficient manner. The trap ways are usually 3” in diameter, while the flush valves on most models are 2 1/8”. They are also glazed so that no waste will ever stick to them.
This only applies to some of their models like the one over at #4, but TOTO uses all the ingenious technologies that you’d find in Japanese toilets. You can even set up a profile for yourself on your toilet’s remote control, adjust the temperature and pressure for the bidet, deodorize the bathroom with the push of a button, and more. When it comes to this kind of high-tech stuff, nothing beats TOTO.
This only applies to the Ultramax series, but it’s still unique to TOTO toilets. Sanagloss is an ionizing antibacterial barrier that will protect the bowl and rim from gathering bacteria. This does not mean that you should skip the cleaning if you opt for an Ultramax toilet, but will still improve the hygiene in your bathroom.
The prices aren’t too bad, especially considering how great the quality of these toilets is. Of course, we aren’t talking about these little computers like the MS970CEMFG#01. If you opt for one of their regular series and models, expect to pay anything between $300 and $500 – which is an excellent deal, considering that’s most likely a lifetime investment.
We hope that reading through this short summary helped you make your mind. Whether TOTO is the best picks for you or not, this article should at least put you on the right track to find the perfect toilet for yourself.
